MY REVIEW OF FIFTY SHADES OF FAITHFUL BY MARY C. FINDLEY

Picture
Fifty Shades of Faithful is a collection of humorous and touching short stories that celebrate the Godly institution of marriage. I was privileged enough to get to be one of the first to read this collection. It was an honor I must say. As a marriage counselor in training, books like these make me want to do back flips! This is the kind of thing to get excited about! If you're married, this is a must-read. Why? Because it talks about sex! That's right! SEX! But not in a perverted or graphic way. Findley does an excellent job with these short stories; each one having its own issue that a lot of marriages face: adultery, abuse, fornication, selfishness, and more. And to add to those issues, these stories have a mixture of surprises. You will laugh, you might cry, but you will definitely turn the pages. And if you're like me, you'll be asking Findley when the next installment will be out. The Christian literary world needs more books like these! Marriage can and should be fun! All marriages will have trials, but there is hope! Do yourself a favor and grab this book as soon as it is released! Get updates by visiting the Facebook page here.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book really will make you think about the presence of demons and angels and the importance and power of prayer. I know that I've had angelic protection in my life, and this book reminded me of that. I really liked the characters and am now ready to read book 2.

MY REVIEW OF "MAID FOR MARTIN" BY SAMANTHA LOVERN

Maid for MartinMaid for Martin by Samantha Lovern
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm giving this story a 5* because it's nice and refreshing to read clean romance. I agree with some of the other reviews that it's a bit preachy, but I like that part of it b/c I'm Christian, and the author states it has Christian themes. It also is a series, so I expected it to be a cliff hanger. Actually, I don't really classify it as a cliff hanger, but it does just end. Granted, it ends abruptly, but this kind of story could go on forever. It has to end somewhere. It didn't leave me hanging where I feel obligated to buy another installment, although I probably will. Why? The author has a way of grabbing you and her characters seem to have realistic thoughts and actions. I liked Randi a lot. I liked all the characters really. Even Celia wasn't all that bad. She was just not right for Martin. Anyway, if you like clean romance with no sex and no bad language and don't mind conservative views concerning dating and marriage, give this book a read.

MY REVIEW OF "HOW SHALL WE LOVE" BY PRECARIOUS YATES

How Shall We Love? How Shall We Love? by Precarious Yates
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book. The first person POV had me wondering if it was a true story. There was so much emotion and depth put into this by Yates. I really fell in love with Cori, and I hurt when she hurt. Great lessons about how God works, how He puts people in our lives, and how it all joins together. Can't wait to read another story from this author. I will add that I like how delicate she was about sensitive topics. I really appreciate non-graphic reads. Great book!

MY REVIEW OF FOREST OVER EVER BY APRIL SAVAGE

forest over everforest over ever by April Savage
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Forest Over Ever is a short, descriptive story full of action, love, and mystery. If you enjoy epic fantasy and scifi, you'll love this first installment. The author does a brilliant job creating the world and painting a vivid picture in the reader's mind. A warning to parents: there are a few swear words and some mild violence. I can tell this author has a lot of story-telling talent. I loved the quotes at the beginning of every chapter which, to me, made the characters seem that much more real. Pick this one up! It's worth it!

My Review of THE BELOVED DAUGHTER by Alana Terry!

The Beloved DaughterThe Beloved Daughter by Alana Terry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book had me from the first page. It was hard to read in parts because of the suffering, but that's the type of book it is. I'm so thankful that the author was able to explain what happens to the characters without getting too graphic. I don't need details of torture to know how bad it is, and the author did a wonderful job of describing without overdoing it. There were some surprises in the book that made me smile and cry at the same time! This book would make an awesome movie! Faith, struggle, suffering, rewards; it's all there wrapped up into one masterpiece of a story! Kudos and 5 stars to Alana Terry! I'd love to read more by this author!

What is The Land of Flames about?
This story began when my children were quite young.  They helped create some of the characters and what the story should be about.  This is the first story I ever completed, and its original intent was to entertain my children and their friends, who loved books with fairy-tale creatures and fantasy elements. It's appropriate for ages 8+. Here is the back cover blurb:

Enter a world of fairies, dragons, dwarves, and elves in The Land of Flames, a magical world where possibilities are endless and truth makes a difference.

Ocamar, the villainous dragon king, and his dragon clan, have overtaken The Land of Serenity and everyone in the land is in jeopardy. The only hope seems to be with Rumbleflin, the oldest and wisest of the elves, who plans to lead an army rebellion.

To add to the conflict, Ocamar and Rumbleflin have been harboring secrets from one another for years, and what happens when those secrets are revealed will have a major impact on everyone.

Can an army of fairy-tale creatures defeat a clan of dragons and restore their Land of Serenity?

THE KINGSLEY ADVENTURES - GHILLIE DHU FAQ's

8/16/2013

Thanks for joining me in the shade today!
Picture
My newest release is the sequel to Patty Gayle and the Legend of Kingsley.  In Return to Kingsley, which takes place 52 years after Patty Gayle's adventure, thirteen-year-old Callie dreams of having her own adventure in the magical world of Kingsley like her grandmother and her great-great grandmother before her. But she doesn’t have very high hopes since the portal to Kingsley was shut fifty-two years ago. Little does she know that the inhabitants of Kingsley are in desperate need. A plague is killing Kingsley's creatures. But Callie doesn’t live on the lake, nor does she have the magical bracelet to allow her to breathe underwater. How will she get to Kingsley? And will she figure it out in time to save the land?

In The Kingsley Adventures, I included some peculiar creatures called ghillie dhu; many folks have asked about them.  Here is a list of FAQ’s:

What is a ghillie dhu?  A ghillie dhu is a small elf-like fairy.

What do they look like?  Ghillie dhu are believed to be a little over a half foot tall with green skin and long, thin arms and fingers.  And I must say, their black hair needs some serious brushing!

Where do the ghillie dhu live?  In the forests among birch trees.

What do they eat?  Nuts and berries.

What kind of clothing do they wear?  They make their own clothing out of things in the forest like leaves, moss, and grass.

Why are they not fond of humans?  The ghillie dhu are shy creatures, and their main goal is to protect the forest in which they live.  They view humans as a threat to nature.  Can’t say as I blame them there.  They will leave you alone unless you fall into one of their traps or over-step your boundaries.

So are they mean?  I think “shy” is the better word, and I think they’re seriously misunderstood creatures.

Why did you include them in your Kingsley stories?  I certainly can’t control what creatures are in Kingsley, but I imagine the ghillie dhu flocked there when they discovered the land had no humans in it, and this might be why less and less humans are claiming to have seen one.

Do all of your stories include ghillie dhu?  No, just the Kingsley Adventures.
