Historical Facts About Kingsley Lake
Kingsley Lake is located six miles east of Starke, Florida. Studies indicate that it is one of the oldest lakes in the state. Geologists believe the lake began as a giant sink hole (over 90 feet deep at its deepest point).
The lake is spring-fed which keeps the water clear and cool. It is 5.5 miles around the shore line, and 2 miles across in all directions. It covers approximately 2,000 acres.
Kingsley Lake is so nearly circular that pilots call it “Silver Dollar Lake.” The lake is famous for its clear waters and recreational sports like water skiing and fishing. It forms the headwaters for the North Fork of Black Creek and makes up part of Camp Blanding, the primary military reservation and training base for the Florida National Guard.
It is believed that the first non-Indian settlement of Kingsley was made in 1859 by Mr. Simeon Strickland (Patty Gayle’s great-grandfather).
