My rating: 5 of 5 stars
If you like fantasy novels that read like "The Lord of the Rings" then this series is for you. The author does a great job of drawing the reader in and "showing" rather than "telling" the plot. There are plenty of reviews that give a summary of what happens in the book, so I will list what Amazon recommends, and that is to answer the question of what would I have liked to know before reading this book. I would have liked to know that the language is in old-style English. I actually used a dictionary in places so I could understand the terms used. That's not a bad thing, but could be distracting for some. Personally I like books that challenge my vocabulary. This book has a historic feel to it without boring the reader. It is full of action and is written smoothly. I'm impressed by how familiar the time and way of speaking seemed to the author. She did her research, so kudos to her! Pick this one up if you like details and lyrical writing.
